Blog 1:
SHIP LIFE
I don’t even know where to begin. It has been less than 2 days on the ship and it is exciting, overwhelming, and exhausting…
Flying towards the Bahamas I glanced out the window every few minutes to find land beneath me, and it wasn’t until I saw ocean that it hit me – this (the ocean) will be my home for the next four months. What a thought.
Ever since I hit ground in the Bahamas, it has been a roller coaster of meet and greet, and the name game. I have met hundreds of people so far and probably remember 10 of their names. I have met a couple of people that have become good friends (as good as they can get in only 2 days…) but it is hard to tell where I will be by the end of the voyage. At times I’ve forgotten that this ship is taking me around the world and will open doors and windows wherever I go. It seems like it’s easy to get caught up in the social aspect because that is all the ship has brought to us so far…soon that will change.
I am so happy to be sitting by myself in my room eating Pringles and drinking a Diet Pepsi. I’m taking a social break.
We have been in meetings practically since we got on the ship. The Faculty and Staff seem helpful, happy to be here, enthusiastic, worldly, and just plain amazing. We haven’t started classes yet; those begin tomorrow. The ship has been rockin’ quite a bit, and you can really feel it in the Union (where we’ve been having all of our meetings) I ended up having to leave last nights meeting early to go lie down in my room. But I think my stomach has manned up today, because I’m feeling a lot better.
My cabin seemed really tiny when I hadn’t unpacked, but now that I have found cozy little homes for everything it’s a decent size (and the gigantic mirror on our wall reflecting our entire cabin helps a little) And yes, I do have a roommate – her name is Alexa and she is from Seattle. She’s pretty cool so far, which is a relief considering my previous roommate history.
Oh, and the food is A-okay!
I just tried to upload pictures...but it didn't work out...I'll try again later!
